I'd love to know how much it too to buy off the family of the guy he killed. I'm sure it was a large amount and they are probably unable to reveal the amount as part of the settlement.
I don't know what effect this will have on the criminal trial, but I hope that he gets an appropriate sentence. I don't have a good feeling on this one though, with enough money and good lawyers you can get out of most anything. Something tells me that the family of the guy he killed will be there and I wonder if they'll speak on Billys' behalf?....as part of the settlement. I sure hope not, but you never know. Weirder things have happened.

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

The fact that the victim had a blood alcohol level of .133, well over the legal limit, could have some bearing on the outcome of the criminal trial, and the outcome of that could have an effect on a civil action.
I have no idea if the BAC of a victim is admissible to a trial under Florida law, or if Florida specifies or allows any kind of shared responsibility in such matters.
I imagine the lawyers for the complainants in the civil action advised them to make the best settlement before a trial verdict or plea, because waiting is rolling the dice.
My biggest concern is will he get off light in the criminal trial, because that's where the real punishment comes. The civil action is only money, and since he AND Daimler - Chrysler were respondants, there were really deep pockets there.
There SHOULD be some criminal violation for whoever at Dodge let him drive their truck while drunk, cause with a blood alcohol of .187, somebody had to be an idiot not to know he was drinking.
I want him to do hard time.

In California..they like to slice the liability pie...No one is 0% or 100% liable...
You get sued for $10mil. and are found 5% at fault...You are out $500,000...

Re
Generally Rash driving is dangerous not only to driver himself but to others also. And if Driving is under influence of Alcohol or any drug then it will become a serious criminal offence that result the suspension of driving license.
When a person is driving or is in actual physical control of a vehicle within this state and is under the influence of alcoholic beverages, any chemical substance, when affected to the extent that the person's normal faculties are impaired; has a blood or breath-alcohol level of 0.08 or more.
A DUI charge is very serious. Driving under the influence is a severe crime in every state. The consequences of a conviction are life-altering. If you don't seek professional DUI lawyers to protect your rights.

The real problem is that in drunk driving is looked at by many people as a boyish prank, not a criminal undertaking. And fortunately, or unfortunately depending on your point of view, alcohol is the social drug of choice for most cultures, and as long as consuming mass quantities of it is considered a right of passage into manhood as well as a symbol of manhood in maturity it will continue to kill. One only has to see the binge drinking that takes place on college campuses. As long as dirinking and driving is looked upon as socialy acceptable, innocent people as well as guilty will contue to die needlessly.

Judging from the similiar deficiencies in grammar and general sentence construction, I'd say it's the same person.
